Ministry capacitates land boards
26 Jan 2016
The Ministry of Lands and Housing has embarked on a series of initiatives to capacitate land boards to deliver better service.
Answering a question at Ntlo ya Dikgosi meeting on Monday, the Minister of Lands and Housing, Mr Prince Maele, said the initiatives included recruitment of qualified personnel, implementation of a new organisational structure, re-engineering of land delivery process to shorten turn around times, continuous daily service delivery, creation of customer services centres, improvement of record keeping, development of land formation system and review legislation.
Mr Maele was responding to Kgosi Colly Cock of Thamaga region who had asked the minister if he was aware that land boards were slow in service delivery.
Kgosi Cock had stated that it could take up to a year to resolve issues pertaining to a plot encroaching on another.
He said the delay could cause loss of evidence resulting in one party being prejudiced or even losing a plot.
Meanwhile, Mr Maele also said his ministry through Botswana Housing Corporation (BHC) had already acquired land and funds for construction of houses in various areas around the country including Kang and Hukunsti.
Mr Maele said 44 houses would be constructed in Hukuntsi, Kang and surrounding areas.
He stated that Hukuntsi and Kang would have 15 houses each, while Hunkukwe, Tshane, Legwabe and Lehututu would each get three and for Inalegolo two BHC houses would be built.
He said the construction would commence on February 19 and would be completed by end of May 2016.
Mr Maele nevertheless said those BHC houses would not be sold through the tenant purchase scheme for the mean time.
Mr Maele was responding to Kgosi Moeti Monyamane of Kgalagadi North who had wanted to know when the Ministry of Lands and Housing would consider constructing houses through BHC in Kgalagadi North to address the acute shortage of accommodation for government and parastatal employees. Ends
