Botswana 28th out of 167 countries

Botswana is ranked 28th in the world as well as second in Africa (after Mauritius) with an overall score of 7.87.
This is according to the Economist Intelligence Unit, which has released its 2015 Global Democracy Index (GDI) of 167 countries.
This year’s score placed Botswana below France (7.92) and above Estonia (7.85) along with a dozen other European Union member states.
Botswana 2015 GDI ranking was, moreover, consistent with the upward trend enjoyed by the country since 2008 when it was ranked 39 in the world with a score of 7.47.
The democracy index further broke down the overall state of each country's governance according various categories, with Botswana continuing to obtain near perfect scores for electoral process and pluralism (9.17) and civil liberties (9.41). Ends
