Galaxy FC shock BDF XI

24 Jan 2016

Contrasting expressions were visible on the faces of the two opposing coaches as the final whistle blew at the Molepolole Sports Complex on Friday night.

While BDF XI’s Beston Chambeshi was a disappointed man, his counterpart at Galaxy FC, Philani Mabhena was all smiles.

That was after Galaxy, not only collected maximum points from BDF XI, but did so with a convincing 3-0 score line.

In a post-match interview, former Sankoyo Bush Bucks, Mabhena, conceded that even though he came into the game expecting positive results, he did not expect such a high margin.

Thus, he praised his boys for their positive approach and willingness to correct their mistakes.

“Against Township Rollers last weekend we created a number of scoring chances, but we failed to convert because we did not get our balance right, but I am happy that today we managed to create chances and scored the necessary goals at the right time, especially in the second half,” he said.

Despite the convincing display by Galaxy, Mabhena said he still wanted to beef up his squad before the transfer window closed.

Even though he refused to disclose players he had in mind, he said he was hoping to land at least three defenders.

Next weekend, Galaxy would be up against Nico United, who lost 0-3 to Orapa United at Itekeng Stadium in Orapa, and Mabhena said the position of his next opponent made them even more dangerous than the top teams.

“We have reached the stage of the championship where struggling teams fight with all they can to avoid relegation, and obviously such teams will be much more difficult to deal with,” he said.

He said that would then call for a thorough preparation for their next game.

BDF XI’s Chambeshi did not hide his disappointment with the score line, but attributed the loss to lack of a solid defence.

“Galaxy were too fast for my defenders and we could not contain them, credit to them.

This problem of defence has been ongoing for some time now, and we will have to make sure that we beef up the department this transfer window,” he said.

Chambeshi said because Galaxy were overpowering them at the back, it made it harder for them to push for an equaliser.

Indeed, Galaxy indicated that they meant business as they attacked the home team from the first whistle, and it was no surprise that they got their first goal as early as the fourth minute when Olebogeng Malebye slotted home unmarked in the box.

After the goal, the visitors continued to exert pressure on Matebele, especially the trio of Malebye, Thero Setsile and Tshepo Borake.

Galaxy were however, let down by poor exchange of passes especially just outside the box.

Matebele managed to hang on until the break and later came back a rejuvenated team as they played a more attacking game.

Nonetheless, it was Galaxy who were rewarded when substitute, Tebogo Sembowa slotted home with his first touch.

Sembowa was to complete his brace with a minute left when he hit home a rebound after BDF XI shot stopper, Mwampule Masule parried to his feet a Keaotshepha Omphile attempt. The goal ensured a healthy 3-0 victory for Galaxy FC. Ends
