HRDC introduces career clinics

20 Jan 2016

The Human Resource Development Council (HRDC) has introduced a new career fair brand dubbed Botswana Human Resource Development Skills (BHRDC) fair and career clinics, which was previously known as the Botswana Tertiary Education Fair.

Speaking at a media brief yesterday in Gaborone, the acting chief executive officer of HRDC, Dr Patrick Molutsi said the new brand was in line with the mandate of HRDC of turning around the education and training system of Botswana from a supply led system into a demand driven system.

He said the BHRDS fair and career clinics was a stakeholder engagement activity geared towards promoting the education and training sector in Botswana.

Dr Molutsi said the BHRDS fair and career clinics provide information to learners using multiple approaches to assist learners to make informed career choices.

He said the BHRDS fair and career clinics stimulate quality education amongst the public and private tertiary education institutions in ensuring that they adhere to delivering quality education.
“The two events create maximum awareness as well as educating the stakeholders and the public on how the fair and career clinics contribute towards the growth of the education and training sector in Botswana,” he said.
For her part, the manager for student planning and welfare in HRDC, Ms Marianyana Selelo highlighted that the BHRDS fair and career clinics were scheduled from the 14th to the 19th March this year. She noted that the specific objective of the two events was to equip young people with life skills to enable them to set viable goals.
She added that the events would also help students explore and make informed decisions on career paths as well as to appreciate all types of careers and how they contribute to a well functioning society.
He said the career clinics would be driven by the sector HRD committees, which are responsible for providing advice to the HRDC on emerging economic trends and relevant education and training in its sector to enable it to succeed.
