Puso retains chair

Kgosi Puso of Batlokwa has retained his position as the chairperson of Ntlo Ya Dikgosi.

The position, which he will hold for two and a half years, follows an election at the fourth meeting of the third Ntlo ya Dikgosi yesterday.

Kgosi Galeakanye Modise of Sefhare also contested for the position and got 13 votes against Kgosi Puso's 20.

The newly elected chairperson thanked fellow dikgosi for re-electing him, noting that it showed that they had confidence in his  leadership.

Kgosi Puso said Ntlo ya Dikgosi would continue playing its role of advising the government in executing its mandate where necessary.

He said bogosi in partnership with the government and other stakeholders would mould a bright future for the country.

The Ntlo ya Dikgosi chairperson also said there was need for a full briefing of dikgosi about the Economic Stimulus Programme given that they were to work closely with the government on upcoming projects.

Meanwhile, addressing Ntlo ya Dikgosi, Vice President, Mr Mokgweetsi Masisi commended members for the good job, adding that they represented the true spirit of a united and proud nation.

Mr Masisi said Ntlo ya Dikgosi had come under criticism from some people challenging its structure and relevance to Batswana, saying it was wrong.

“I wish to correct this misconception and want it to be known that as the government we value dikgosi and their contribution to the social uplifting of the people,” he said.

Mr Masisi also commended Ntlo ya Dikgosi on the notable achievements that have continued to shape the county’s landscape.

 

He also commended dikgosi for setting themselves apart as custodians of the Setswana culture and heritage. Ends
