Sua Flamingoes eye super league

11 Jan 2016

First Division side Sua Flamingoes is entertaining an enticing opportunity to promote to the super league next season.

Flamingoes have been performing well in the first round of the Debswana First Division North and when breaking for first round league games Flamingoes was sitting on second position with 23 points behind Mahalapye Spurs.

The chairman of Sua Flamingoes, Bashi Joseph said when they got to the first division league their intention was to just compete with other teams in the first division.

He said after a couple of games they could not ignore the enticing situation for them to revamp their aspirations.

“Today we realised that we can do better than just competing and now we believe we can qualify to play in the beMOBILE Premiership come next season,” he said.

He added that in their quest for progress to the premier league it has triggered them to bring about changes into their team.

“When we left for the festive we offloaded about nine players and have some players on trial in camp,” he said.

He said they decided to offload players because they felt they were not competent with their positions. He said two of their goalminders have been sent packing among them their first choice goalkeeper.

However, he said they intend to use Zimbabwean Wilson Muchenje for the remaining season. He said Muchenje will be their first choice goalkeeper for the remaining fixtures. Muchenje failed to feature in the first round of the league due to registration hiccups and was not legible to play.

Moreover, he was quick to dismiss allegations making rounds on social media that they intend to hire Oris Radipotsane.

Joseph said it is true they parted ways with their Zimbabwean gaffer Elias Chinyemba and they intend to give Michael Mwemba a new role as coach.

Regarding consistency with their performance, Joseph was content saying he believes the coach will work hand in hand with the assistant and the goalkeeper coach to keep the momentum of the team.

“Some people would express anxiety at changing a coach who has been performing well, but in this case changing a coach won’t do us good because he has an assistant coach who has been there together with the goalkeeper coach,” he said.

As for the performance of the team, Joseph said he is convinced the team performed well. Apart from some games which he believes they could have won easily.

Joseph also pointed out the only challenge they faced were issues regarding  Sunday match fixtures. He said to plan for a Sunday match is costly.

“We had to go on camp on Friday until the day of the match which comes across very costly unlike Saturday matches,” he added.

However, he said they have decided to trim their squad from 20 players to 18. Ends
