Temperatures soar

The Department of Meteorological Services advises the public of an unprecedented heat wave which is expected to prevail across the country on Thursday January 7 and Friday January 8.
According to a press release from the department, the unprecedented heat wave is expected to break some records.
It says temperatures will reach maximums of between 40°C and 43°C, and is expected to ease by dropping slightly by about 2°C over most parts of the country from Saturday onwards.
The release however says isolated thunderstorms are expected to occur with temperatures dropping at some places.
The department advises members of the public to take precautionary measures to protect themselves from the adverse weather conditions.
The release further says people should drink more water regardless of their activity level, avoid prolonged stay under the sun and if possible stay under the shade.
Furthermore it says people should protect themselves from the sun by wearing wide-brimmed hats or umbrellas. Ends
