Claims on alcohol levy increment untrue
17 Dec 2015
The Ministry of Trade and Industry has urged the public to ignore the hoax press release that is circulating in the social media about the increment of the alcohol levy.
A press release from the ministry has dismissed information in the said ‘ress release’ dated December 14 as it is not authentic.
The release states that the culprit photo-shopped, defaced and falsified a previous press release issued by the ministry and manipulated the dates, contents and signatories thereof.
The ministry wsays the levy on alcoholic beverages has not been increased since last year, as such no press release has been issued in that regard.
The public is therefore, urged to ignore the said misleading ‘press release’ that is meant to mislead and misinform the nation.
Furthermore, the public is advised that this is a serious crime which they must desist from and the matter has been referred to the police for investigation and appropriate action. Ends
