Road show attracts mass registrations

17 Dec 2015

The just ended land registration road show attracted 30 0000 plot registrations.

Speaking at a leadership forum for the Ministry of Lands and Housing in Palapye recently, Minister of Lands and Housing, Mr Prince Maele, commended employees for the successful exercise.

“It is now for us to expedite surveying plots to keep the momentum going,” he said.

Furthermore, he said in July, Parliament approved Botswana Land Policy to address land management challenges, adding that his ministry should align its policies with the National Land Policy to avoid contradictions.

He said the policy continued to be a working document in progress, adding that ministry officials should not shy away from going back to government to advise accordingly.

Mr Maele said it was disturbing that already there were some issues, emanating from the fact that some had not completed compiling their waiting list, reminding them that this was refusal to obey a lawful instruction.

He instructed that each land board including, department of lands, must submit a written report on how they were progressing with their respective waiting lists by January 15. “We have promised Batswana that we will work selflessly for them, let us keep the promise and serve them with distinction, for we can be better for doing so,” the minister said.

Mr Maele said the time set for completion of the land registration project dubbed LAPCAS was December next time.

He, however, said he did not see justifiable results “if we are to compare it with its spending.

“I am not particularly impressed with this project but on the converse, I am depressed by its expenditure thus far,” he said.

In addition, he said there was need to strengthen communication, for it was then that the ministry could be assured of building a strong team. He also raised concern over poor customer service, saying he was not happy with the manner in which some employees treated customers.

He encouraged staff to ask customers to fill in customer feedback forms including dissatisfied customers. Ends
