14 Dec 2015

Members of Parliament have been commended for actively participating in this year’s State of the Nation Address (SONA).

Addressing the media yesterday (December 14), Speaker of the National Assembly, Ms Gladys Kokorwe, also commended the legislators for filing questions and motions. Moreover, she was happy that MPs showed dedication while delivering quality debates.

The just ended meeting, which is usually the shortest, received 372 parliamentary questions, 177 of which were answered.

For ministers' question time, 24 were received and four were answered, while 82 private members' motions were received, two  of which were rejected while two were withdrawn.

Meanwhile, highlights of the meeting included swearing-in of new Goodhope-Mabule MP, Kgosi Lotlamoreng II, followed by delivery of the State of the Nation Address by President Lt Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama.

November 12 saw election and swearing-in of specially elected MP, Mr Eric Molale.

MPs debated the SONA, and as usual, leader of the opposition, Mr Duma Boko, was first to respond while leader of the House, Mr Mokgweetsi Masisi, concluded discussions.

Ms Kokorwe said apart from the State of the Nation Address, which they transacted successfully, they also conducted business of the house accordingly. Ends
