Khawa receives goodies
13 Dec 2015
President Lt Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama on Saturday (December 12) donated food hampers, solar lanterns, football kits, blankets to Khawa residents and chairs to the kgotla.
He also gave sweets to children. President Khama also distributed Bibles, which he advised the residents to use as their day-to-day guide so that peace and harmony could prevail in their community.
In his welcome remarks at the donation ceremony, Kgosi Piet Manyoro of Khawa expressed gratitude to the President's initiative of poverty eradication, pointing out that it had helped a lot of his people
He, however, decried the bad state of the road from Khawa to Khuis. He also complained that the tribal administration office did not have transport since their vehicle was boarded about two years ago,.
In his response to the bad state of Khawa/Khuis road, the manager of roads department for Kgalagadi region, Mr Kenneth Kotokwe assured the meeting that the department was working around the clock to ensure the road was useable.
He said the problem was with the contractor who had been given the tender to re-grade and gravel the road.
Mr Kotokwe, however, said as a way of making sure that the contractor carries out his duties diligently and adhered to the agreed terms and conditions, they had written him a warning letter and the expectation was that he would finish by the end of this month.
He added that they had since engaged another contractor to do routine maintenance once the current one finishes his term.
For his part, President Khama pointed out that he was equally concerned with the state of the road, but was happy that the department had taken appropriate action of engaging another contractor, who will hopefully do a better job. Ends
