Games organisers address issues daily
10 Dec 2015
Chairperson of the fourth Botswana Games Organising Committee (GOC), Bobby Gaseitsewe says they meet on a daily basis as a committee together with the chef de missions of all the 16 districts to iron out issues that are raised by teams.
Gaseitsewe was responding to a concern raised by Team Lobatse boxing coach, Dinners Sikele who complained that his team did not perform well at the ongoing games because his players did not sleep well where they were accommodated. Sikele said they were accommodated at Matsiloje, which is almost 40 kilometers away from Francistown, where the games are played.
He said at the same time, on the day of their arrival, they were not given a caretaker and as such they had to find their way to the institution.
Sikele said his players were stung by mosquitoes and other insects which affected them to the extent that some were vomiting the next day and had to be attended to by the medical team.
He further complained that they were fed at the Francistown College Technical and Vocational Training (FCTVE) and therefore have to travel earlier to get to breakfast which was not what they were promised.
They were assured that the teams would be fed at their accommodation facilities. In response, Gaseitsewe said if they have not received any major worries from the chef de mission on their daily meetings, everything would be assumed to be fine.
He said the purpose of the daily meetings was for the chef de missions to report issues which need to be addressed.
Regarding accommodation logistics, Gaseitsiwe said it was not only Team Lobatse which has been accommodated a distance from the venue of the games, citing that other teams reside as far as Tshesebe and Tsamaya.
He said this was as a result of one of the venues for the games which also had to accommodate the teams. Shashe River School, had another event taking place there, hence they had to move to other facilities. Ends
