Government spends P4.3m on newspapers advertising

Government spent about P4.3 million on advertising in private local newspapers during the 2014/15 financial year, Assistant Minister for Presidential Affairs and Public Administration, Mr Dikgang Makgalemele has told Parliament.
Responding to a question asked by Ghanzi North MP Mr Noah Salakae recently, Mr Makgalemele stated that the criteria used to select newspapers for advertising was determined by individual ministries on case by case basis.
He further said government has not blacklisted any newspaper. Mr Salakae had wanted to know the amount spent on advertising in each private local newspaper for the financial year 2014/15, and the criteria used to select newspapers for advertising by government.
According to Mr Makgalemele, Mmegi newspaper received the highest amounts of revenue from government adverts totalling P926, 861, followed by The Voice with P724, 899, with the Botswana Gazette third with P635, 740.
Sunday Standard received the lowest amounts of revenue from government adverts at P10, 662, with Okavango News the second lowest at P35, 250. Ends
