BDP hosts first edition of family fun day

The Botswana Democratic Party(BDP) reached out to the public by hosting a family fun day at Gaborone Club over the weekend.
The series of events that culminated with the fan day started on Thursday when the party hosted the media fraternity for a cocktail at Capellos.
Speaking during the fun day, BDP communications and international relations chairperson, Mr Thapelo Pabalinga said the cocktail was to engage the media and thank them for the good work they do. He also said it was to address untrue speculations that the BDP has a bad relationship with the media.
“We wanted to meet in an informal setting with the media just to thank them for the good job that they are doing because we believe the media plays a critical role in democracy and are an integral part of what we do,” he said.
Mr Pabalinga said the speculations were fuelled by people who hate the BDP, labelling them as just myths.
With regard to the Saturday event, Mr Pabalinga said the fun day was a way by the BDP to engage with the public.
“The year is going to end and people will be travelling back to their home villages. The idea was to meet people from different areas without involving any political activities, but in a social environment,” said Mr Pabalinga.
He said the event was hosted by the BDP but was open to everyone to attend. He said the other good thing about the event was that it was for charity.
Mr Pabalinga explained that children would be afforded an opportunity have fun with others, especially those who were not privilege. He noted that some children have not had the chance to play on jumping castles and water slides, adding that the fun day provided such a moment to put a smile on those children. Ends
