Maele applauds land boards

08 Dec 2015

The Minister of Lands and Housing, Mr Prince Maele, has commended the Tati Land Board for partnering with Orange Botswana to improve services through which customers can pay for their housing lease.

He made the remarks during the Tati Land Board Orange Money launch in Francistown.

This partnership, he said, would encourage Batswana to pay leases on time because revenue collection has been a persisting issue across all land boards in the country.“It has been established that the majority of people do not pay their rentals. Non-payment for service provided has resulted in the government losing millions in uncollected revenue and thereby negatively impacting on the budget,” he explained.

He noted that collaboration between the two companies was testimony that Public Private Partnership (PPP) was vital, mutually beneficial and should be embraced as it promotes service excellence.

The initiative, he said, bears into consideration the important aspects of business which are the financial perspective and the customer perspective.

He emphasised that the customer was pivotal to the functioning of a business and that the partnership would offer customers a platform to pay their lease at the comfort of their homes.

Mr Maele urged the Tati Land Board to always seek the views of lessees in the execution of their mandate and use the input to improve on their services.

For his part, the board secretary, Mr Focus Mmolawa said the government wishes to re-invent the services provided to Batswana concerning lease payments hence the partnership.

He also said since Batswana could now pay their lease through Orange Money, barriers such as distance and transport fees would no longer be an issue of concern.

Mr Mmolawa also urged Batswana to pay their lease on time because it was the same money that was used to develop the country. Ends
