Demonstrating the compassionate and caring principle of the country he leads, President Lt Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama on Monday December 7 rode a motorbike from Gaborone to Lentsweletau as part of the sixth annual Remmogo Charity Ride.
Rommogo Charity Ride, organised by the Botswana Biker Society (BBS) in collaboration with a local company Citizen Designs, culminated with the presentation of gifts to orphans at Lentsweletau kgotla, with President Khama having been the chief rider.
Traversing a route from the Three Dikgosi Monument in the Gaborone Central Business District, navigating through parts of Gaborone en route to Lentsweletau, President Khama led a group of 60 or so motor biking enthusiasts.
“It is such a privilege and honour to work with the President on this charitable cause for the second year running, and we are grateful for his participation.
This year’s event will benefit 250 children,” BBS chairperson, Mr Bertus de Klerk, said. Mr De Klerk said BBS, an umbrella organisation of the country’s various biking clubs, had initiated the event, now in its sixth year, as part of giving back to the community.
He said for this year they chose Lentsweletau as the route is frequented by motor biking clubs during their normal leisure rides. “We decided to come to Lentsweletau and thank the community for their cooperation.
We brought 250 hampers, which include cosmetic items, toothpaste, juice and sweets from Shoprite,” Mr De Klerk said.
Gaborone’s Sanitas Nursaries and Gardern Centre had also donated 30 trees, which were also presented to the Lentsweletau kgotla, and the rest set to be allocated to designated places in the village.
Lentsweletau-Mmopane legislator, Mr Vincent Seretse, applauded the donors for their “kind gesture,” stating that the bikers had acted in an exemplary manner. His views were buttressed by Lentsweletau’s Kgosi Morulaganyi Makgasane, who also expressed gratitude for the gifts. ENDS
