Tatisiding library produces computer graduates

07 Dec 2015

Tatisiding library has celebrated its first group of graduates from a computer training course.

This was after a successful completion of a three months course recently and the graduation was held at the village community hall under the theme ‘Libraries and Information Technology: A driver towards an educated and informed nation.’

Officiating at the event, businessman and owner of Tati Towers Lodge in Tatisiding Mr Motlatsi Mbanga said the theme is very important and relevant since its one of the Vision 2016 pillars and it affects the nation at large.

He said therefore this calls for each and every stakeholder to play a meaningful role towards the realization of the vision through driving one of its pillars of an educated and informed nation.

Mr Mbanga emphasized that the theme challenges everyone to reflect back and make a review of how they made a contribution towards the realization of 2016 and look beyond that as 2016 is just around the corner.

He stated that in 2008, American Microsoft owner and billionaire Mr Bill Gates came up with an initiative of free access to computers by the community and the government of Botswana welcomed the initiative.

Mr Mbanga lamented that this initiative changed the overall image of public libraries, which by then was declining and viewed as storerooms.

He urged the community to be in support of the library as it is theirs and they can ensure that its impact is felt and visible in the community.

Mr Mbanga donated P1000 to be used towards the development of the library and one of the beneficiaries of the programme Ms Gosaitse Mangisi advised others to make use of government initiatives if they are available.

For his part, Kgosi Simon Nkgageng stated that even though they have a challenge of a place as their library is small, he wishes that something will be done about it. ENDS
