07 Dec 2015
President Lt Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama has appealed to residents of Bobonong to respect the current senior sub tribal authority Kgosi Mmirwa Malema until he concluded his term as the village leader.
President Khama said Kgosi Malema has led the ethnic group well without offended his subjects and as such should be given the respect he deserved.
He said it was wrong and inappropriate for some people to speak bad about the leader without considering his age.
President Khama described kgosi Malema as an elderly person who deserved to be respected and that his term of office had been extended up to September 30 2016.
He said kgosi Malema had been in the office for a long time and it was a fact that one day he must retire from office but the process to replace him must be carried out without disrespecting him.
He mentioned that Kgosi Malema’s contract expired in October this year but was extended to give the ethnic group time to submit the name of the next leader.
The President was responding to headman of arbitration Mr Goitseone Patane who said kgosi Malema must vacate the seat as his place of origin was Molalatau not Bobonong, and that Bangwato regent kgosi Sediegeng Kgamane must be the one to attended to Babirwa issue.
However minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Slumber Tsogwane said it was upon the ethinc group through a proper forum to sumbit the name of a candidate for approval by the ministry. President Khama visited Bobonong constituency where he addressed kgotla meetings in Tsetsebye and Bobonong last week. Ends.
