VP meets visiting India investors

04 Dec 2015

A seven-man delegation of Indian businesspersons yesterday paid a courtesy call on Vice President Mr Mokgweetsi Masisi, and spoke of their willingness to set up business operations in the country.

Mr Masisi said it was a welcome development for the Indian business investors to have heeded his call by coming to Botswana to assess sustainable business opportunities, which would in turn create job prospects.

He said Botswana has a lot of viable business opportunities and that an investor’s money is safe in Botswana, noting that investors were free to take their money anywhere they wanted as the country has a more liberalised money transaction policy.

Mr Masisi therefore urged them to set up business factories, moreso that the country is centrally located in the southern part of the continent and the goods could be sold to places outside African market.

Meanwhile, the leader of the delegation, who is also vice chairperson of Chamber of Indian Industries (CII) and managing director of Emerson Network Power Limited, Mr Sunil Khanna said following the Vice President’s visit to Mumbai India, where he attended Botswana Business Seminar in October this year, they saw it fit to come to Botswana to explore business opportunities.

The Mumbai Business Seminar was organised by Botswana Investment and Trade Centre (BITC) in conjunction with Botswana High Commission to India.

This event afforded the Vice President an opportunity to address and lure investors from sectors such as mining, energy, manufacturing, ICT, health, education, agriculture, diamond beneficiation and tourism among others.

Mr Khanna said they have come to explore business areas which they could venture into and possibly enter into joint ventures with locals. Ends
