Kgalagadi potential tourist attraction

24 Apr 2013

Local Enterprise Authority market analyst in Tsabong, Mr Gosekwang Sebutana says Kgalagadi District possesses abundant business opportunities for young people to tap into.

Mr Sebutana was speaking at the Kgalagadi youth empowerment training in Tsabong Tuesday.

He informed young entrepreneurs that the area possessed a vast of natural resources and therefore makes it a potential tourism destination.

Gigantic sand dunes, wild animals and camels, he said were some of the flora and fauna that could attract tourists into the district.

He said such resources awaited the youth to exploit and make money from.

Also, he argued that there were many business opportunities in the tourism sector such as cultural villages and campsites, game driving, travel agencies as well as tour operators.

The market analyst said that the tarring of Trans-Molopo highway was an advantage to the tourism sector and therefore appealed to young businesspersons to exploit the sector.

“Travelling is a very important eye-opener if you want to be in the tourism industry,” Mr Sebutana said, adding that youth should also utilise internet to research their fields.

Agriculture was also tipped as one of the sectors that provided business opportunities to young people.

The market analyst said projects such as layers and broilers farming were lucrative but only collapsed due to poor cash flow management.

Again, he said research showed that fodder production could be another profitable project.

Further, he indicated that the area was plagued by poor rainfalls and as such pastoral land was usually barren, thus that could also afford young farmers an opportunity to tap into.

Mr Sebutana said through youth industries, young entrepreneurs could also embark on residential and commercial property.

That, he said was one of the sectors that were yet to be fully exploited in Kgalagadi, especially in Tsabong since there was mining exploration that promised high quality diamonds.

Activities like mining, he said attracted a lot of people, especially mine workers into the area and as such making commercial and residential property a worthwhile enterprise.

The three-day workshop aimed at drilling young businesspersons on, among others, procedures and requirements for acquiring land, commercial affairs, licensing requirements, tendering procedure and requirements. ENDS
