Minister of Infrastructure, Science and Technology (MIST), Mr Nonofo Molefhi, has encouraged Kopano Primary School students to show commitment to education.
Mr Molefhi was speaking at the school’s excellency awards recently.
He told students that they were an investment to their parents, who were sacrificing to ensure that they get the best education.
Therefore, he said they should not lose focus on their education.
Mr Molefhi, also MP for Selebi Phikwe East, advised students to refrain from watching movies and playing television games as this would disturb their school work and make them lose focus.
He also encouraged parents to show commitment to their children’s education and to actively participate in all academic activities including parents teachers association meetings, adding that working with teachers would lead to better results and success.
Furthermore, the minister congratulated Kopano Primary School for excelling in PSLE 2014 with 100 per cent pass as thus contributed to Selebi Phikwe cluster being the best in the region.
He commended teachers for their great job and for not being motivated by salaries, but driven by passion.
“As Selebi Phikwe cluster, we are headed for excellence because of team spirit displayed by government and private schools and also sharing knowledge and exchanging ideas,” Mr Molefhi said.
For his part, school head, Mr Nassim Miller stated that they were working hard to help students excel in their studies.
He said the school had improved in terms of infrastructure with two new classrooms and a computer lab, which changed the school to the double stream system.
He also stated that they had adopted better learning ways to improve their education system such as extra lessons, holiday teaching and mock examinations to put their students in competitive position globally, and put Botswana on the map. Ends
