Chairperson calls for diligence in public service

Public servants have been advised to make a difference in the communities and people they serve. 

Mahalapye Sub-District chairman, Mr Tassman Cebani, said this during the chairman’s ball and award ceremony in Mahalapye.

He said doing what they had always been doing without yielding tangible results was no longer acceptable, more so that their vision was to be a world class centre for social service, basic infrastructure and local governance.

He said they should also serve people with a smile, politeness, efficiency and patience, adding that they were obliged to do so.

He said government and different ministries were committed to doing so and people should work together to deliver change. The theme of the event was inspired work force for improved productivity.

Mr Cebani said public employees should also have cordial relations with councilors, as this could help service delivery because councilors work with people on the ground.

He said service delivery needs concerted efforts and all stakeholders should take part in making sure Batswana were assisted.

Further, he advised them to also adhere to the set service standards so that the public was helped accordingly, adding that there was need for everyone to pull up their socks and work hard to serve the nation.

He said the award ceremony was meant to appreciate and recognize those who expressed themselves better in the past year, whose efforts ought to be rewarded.

He noted that there were good employees in Mahalapye Sub Council with potential to being great employees provided the management offers guidance and support.

Mr Cebani said managers have the responsibility to inspire and lead, and sometimes they have to make difficult decisions and deal with under performers hence everyone should pull their weight.

For his part Mahalapye chief, Kgosi Tswebebe Segotsi also implored councilors that as politicians they were also public servants therefore they should drive government initiatives and serve communities.

Kgosi Segotsi said they should see that as public servants they implement these initiatives and make sure that they reach communities.

He said there were many challenges in their communities but as public servants they should strive hard to serve the people who elected them, adding they should make sure that youth and women initiatives reach their beneficiaries.

He also said they should make sure that they see tangible results when they do their work, monitor and guide people where possible and make sure tenders were awarded in a transparent and accountable manner. Ends
