27 Nov 2015

International Netball Federation (INF) board president, Molly Rhone says she is confident that Botswana will deliver the Netball World Youth Cup games, come 2017.

Rhone who arrived in Botswana on November 25 to attend a board meeting said in an interview that Botswana had been giving INF progress report every three months.

“So I am confident that they are on the right track, and if they are lacking behind, I don't think it will be on major things and  if they  have problems in getting responses from participating teams, we will assist them because the Netball World Youth Cup has more participating teams that the senior cup” she said.

Talking about their board meeting, Rhone said INF had three board meetings in a year and the Botswana one was special because the country would be hosting a major tournament. She Africa would be hosting the Netball World Youth Cup for thr first time.

Furthermore, she said the major part of their agenda would be the presentation by the cup's local organising committee(LOC), adding that she was confident that Botswana had put together an  impressive LOC and steering  group, therefore they expected them to give an update during the meeting.

The INF board president, further said the LOC report would guide them given that Netball World Youth Cup was a major event. In other issues, Rhone said she was happy that Netball World Youth Cup would be hoisted in Africa, because the region was high in the INF agenda.

She said Africa was the region which had a development manager, and had benefited them in terms of  netball development in the region.

Meanwhile a press release from Botswana Netball Association says the association has been granted the rights to Netball World Youth Cup 2017, which would be a pinnacle event for the INF featuring athletes aged 21 and under.

It says NWYC2017 will bring together 20 countries, from across the five netball regions of Africa, Europe, Asia, Oceania and Americas.

According to the release as part of the engagement and familiarization activities, and the board will engage in several activities including a tour of the venues and facilities that BONA is targeting to use in 2017.
