Assessment of people living with disabilities is ongoing in THE Kanye Administrative Authority (KAA).

KAA Sub-district Council chairperson, Mr Tlhomamo Dibeela, said this during a sub-council meeting in Kanye.

Councillors were told that out of 142 screened names which were submitted to Office of the President 121 had been assessed and 85 were recommended for cash transfer allowance. And 36 did not qualify for the cash component.

Mr Dibeela noted that the department continued to receive new cases and they were equally being assessed. About destitute housing, Mr Dibeela said poverty encompassed several deprivations such as lack of decent shelter.

He said KAA had received funds amounting to P500 000 from Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development for construction of houses for five needy persons, adding that beneficiaries had been identified at Molapowabojang West, Nyorosi East, Lotlhakane East, Kebuang and Bagami ward.

He said as for the ongoing six projects, three had been handed to council and the other three were awaiting plumbing materials and expected to be handed over by December 9, 2015.

He added that they had 62 people who needed shelter and shall continue to improve their livelihoods and give them dignity through the ministry and individual donors. Ends
