25 Nov 2015

Prayers and thoughts continue to go to the bereaved families and Matsha College following a tragedy that saw seven students losing their lives in a road accident that left scores of others hospitalised.

SADC secretariat,  Chinese Enterprise Association (CEA) and Boswa Primary School on Tuesday presented  monetary donation to the Office of the President to go into the Matsha College Accident Fund. SADC donated P100 000 , CEA P20 000 while Boswa donated P 2 000.

SADC representative, Mr Stephen Sianga said SADC secretariat above being touched by the death of the students, was also saddened by the number of students who sustained injuries during the accident.

He said SADC wished a speedy recovery to all the hospitalised students. For his part,  CEA deputy chairperson Mr De Cheng Zhu said as part of the community, they felt an obligation to lend a helping hand.

Boswa deputy school head, Ms Masego Lekopanye-Justin, said they felt touched as they admit students from rural areas. She said accidents like this one are what they usually experience as teachers.

Handing the donation, a pupil from the school, Alebakwe Molelekwa encouraged the students of Matsha and the families of the students involved in the accident “to trust in God and be comforted.” Receiving the donation, secretary for Presidential Affairs and Public Administration Ms Kebonye Moepeng thanked the donors.

She noted that there is no small gift as “all gifts are appreciated at the same level as it is said that more blessed is the hand that gives than the one that receives.” She said their kind donation towards the tragedy that befell Matsha College students will go a long way in improving not only their livelihoods but also their parents’ livelihoods as the money will be used to rehabilitate those affected.

“This shows a compassionate, just and caring spirit that is welcomed by all and is an aspiration of Vision 2016,” she said.

Ms Moepeng noted that what the donors have done displays their kindness and reinforces the spirit of BOTHO that Botswana is known for. Ends
