Ministry of Agriculture employees in Serowe are warming up for the ministry’s wellness week billed for Francistown Technical College on December 1-4.
The Central Wellness Committee has embarked on Sjapi Cycle Challenge in preparation for the Francistown meet.
The cyclists are expected to depart from Serowe on November 30, have a night stopover at Sese and arrive at the second city on December 1.
“The main aim is to exercise the body and in the process raise funds to give back to the community,” said Fatima Makgethe, Central District Agriculture coordinator in an interview.
Makgethe said each cyclist paid a P300 joining fee to participate in the challenge, while other staff members were distributing donation sheets to raise funds.
She said the money raised would be donated to Francistown Centre for the Deaf.
Makgethe highlighted that the donation would be a Christmas hamper that would be in the form of food and toiletry.
One of the cyclists, senior scientific officer at Ministry of Agriculture, Kagiso Mopipi said preparations were going well.
Mopipi said two of the cyclists used the Morupule Cycle Challenge held last month by Morupule Coal Mine in Serowe as a yardstick to prepare themselves.
He said there were cycle rehearsals from Serowe to Kakamane held daily until November 29, having started a fortnight ago.
The officer also noted that more than 10 cyclists would participate on the challenge, adding that they were expecting cyclists from other regions to join them.
Mopipi said the challenge was open to every interested member of the public; hence urging the public to participate and cycle for a good cause. Ends
