Police address taxi operators over Nandos parking
24 Nov 2015
Maun traffic police commander, Superintendent, Alfred Magudu has expressed concern over taxi and combi operators who use Nandos parking lot as a taxi rank.
Addressing the taxi association in Maun recently, Supt Magudu said his officers had so far arrested and charged the culprits P2 000 each for not complying with their permit.
He said the illegal act has caused conflict between taxi operators and Nandos customers over the parking area. He said it was vital to prohibit taxies from entering the parking lot until a resolution was reached.
He said when taxi operators were caught loading customers in the area, they make excuses such as collecting orders from Nandos.
For his part, Nhabe Combi and Taxi Association president, Mr Rothomia Ithuteng said they would meet with other stakeholders to discuss how they could resolve the issue.
He said they would also advocate for the formation of a mini taxi rank, as the existing one was not able to accommodate the ever increasing number of taxi operators in Maun. He assured taxi operators that the association would continue to advocate for their rights.
Mr Kgakgamatso Monnatshipi, a taxi operator, said he was against the decision to ban them from the Nandos parking lot. He pleaded with stakeholders to resolve the issue as they were making a loss. Ends
