Government to develop Mmea villages

Planned projects for Letlhakane, Mosu, Mokubilo, Khwee, Mmatshumo and Mmea  villages include construction of health facilities, government offices, educational facilities, equipping of boreholes and storm water drainages.

Answering a question in Parliament, Assistant Minister of Local government and rural development, Ms Botlogile Tshireletso said the developments  comprise of  backlog eradication, purchase of bulls and heifers, roads construction, destitute houses and infectious disease control centres and RADP houses as captured in the District Development Plan 6(DDP) / National Development Plan  9(NDP) and DDP 7/NDP10.

She said of the 58 projects planned in the six villages 45 were completed, thus 15 in Letlhakane, six each on Mokubilo and Mmatshumo, seven each in Mosu and Khwee and four in Mmea.

Ms Tshireletso said the balance of 13 projects were deffered and twelve in Letlhakane and one in Mokubilo.

The deferred projects, she said  include construction of Food Relief Services warehouse, Primary school ablution blocks, offices upgrading of health facilities, recreational facilities, roads construction, sewerage works, police office, upgrading of secondary schools, and magistrate courts could not be implemented during the plan period due to resources constraints and inadequate capacity on project implementation.

She said her ministry through Central District Development Committee conducted community consultations to provide feedback on the implementation of the plan during the DDP 7 midterm review on July 12-13, 2012, adding for DDP 8 preparations consultations were held from September 22-25 this year.

The total expenditure, of the projects, she said in Boteti Eat during the plan period was P368 398 895.91 

Member of Parliament for Boteti East Sethomo Lelatisitswe had wanted the Minister of Local government and rural development, to update Parliament on development projects which were planned for Letlhakane ,Mosu,Mokubilo,Khwee.Mmatshumo and Mmea  villages since 2004,on both the National Development and District Development Plans. 

In  addition, the MP asked the minister to state the current status of the project  per village,  reasons why the projects were never undertaken/executed, whether the projects are no longer necessary, whether there was any  consultation was made with the community regarding the  suspension or cancellation  and when these meetings were held, and how much Government has spent on projects in Boteti East on the same period and projects done.
