25 Nov 2015

The much anticipated Tshipi e ntsho race was launched recently in Metsimotlhabe.

The Colombia and Humber bicycles will be making history in the event dubbed Tshipi e ntsho race which will be the first of its kind to be held in Botswana.

According to the founder of Tshipi e ntsho race, Mpopi Mokgware preparations are going on well and the event promises to live to its expectations. Mokgware further stated that the proceeds of the event will be used to help the needy, poor, less privilege and aged in different communities.

She said they have been receiving a number of sponsors who want to contribute to the success of the event.

Mokgware also said they have received a lot of people who registered for the event as a result they have divided the event into two categories being the youth and the oldies category.

She said winners from each category will receive cash and trophy prizes respectively.

She said the Humber and Colombia bicycles will also be judged and the best will receive an award and losers will each receive a certificate as a token of appreciation. She stressed that they only allow and recognise old model bicycles known as Colombia and Humber to register and take part in the event.

Also present at the launch, Kgosi Raphael Mmipi of Metsimotlhabe, who said the event would give the village an opportunity to pave way for developments and most importantly the event was charity based.

Some of the leaders who are said to grace the event include the leadership of the village being Kgosi Mokalake and Metsimotlhabe councillor who promised to give the oldies category a run for their money.

A fierce and a tough battle is expected between the Humber veterans, Rampefe Tsopane aged 65 and Jackson Kegoeng aged 80.

The two old men said Humber reminds them of their youthful days and hold great memories when they were living in the 1960’s in Gaborone, as it was the commonly used mode of transport.

They noted that riding Humber contributed to their health as they were still fit and good looking.

For his part, Barorisi Gospel Choir leader and caretaker, Keorapetse Tlhakudi said this would provide participants with an opportunity to unite, form friendships and exercise.

He said they were prepared as the sponsors, medical team, bicycles and prizes were ready and people should expect a fun filled day.

The event will be held on November 28 in Metsimotlhabe and the race is 10km from Metsimotlhabe to Diphiring. Ends
