11 compensation cases reported

The Minister of Labour and Home Affairs, Mr Edwin Batshu has told Parliament that 11 workers compensation cases were referred to the commissioner of workers compensation from Letlhakane District labour office in the past five years.

He said out of the 11 cases, four were received in 2011, out of which two have been settled and two appealed to the High Court by the claimants. He said two were received in 2013 of which both of them have been settled and closed.

Mr Batshu said four cases were received in 2014 out of which three have been settled and closed and one sent for reassessment due to aggravation of the injury.

The minister stated that one case was received in October 2015 and was being processed. He said all the claimants in the cases were still alive and have been assisted as reflected.

The MP for Boteti East, Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe had asked the minister if he was aware that there were a lot of workers’ compensation cases referred to the commissioner of workers’ compensation by the Letlhakane office.

He asked him to state the number of  cases, when were they referred, and further state how many of the beneficiaries were still alive, and also to state how many of the beneficiaries were reported as deceased and have still not been assisted. Ends
