Maintenance of Mogale hotels continues
18 Nov 2015
Regional education office was on November 18, 2015 arranged to meet Mogale Junior Secondary School PTA to discuss a number of issues including infrastructure facilities and school academic performance.
Answering a question in Parliament, the assistant Minister of Education and Skills Development Mr Moiseraele Goya however said minor maintenance of hostels is continuing, noting that Department of Technical Services has visited the school on October 9, 2015 and made assessments for the cyclic maintenance which will be done as soon as funding is available.
Meanwhile he said the ministry of education has a prescribed menu designed to cover the nutritional needs of a growing child and allows for four meals per day. Occasionally, he said, shortages are experienced primarily due to delayed supplies. On other issues, Mr Goya said the school had three cases of boys who were bullying others at the boys’ hostels.
The school has addressed the issue and the boys were expelled from boarding. In the meantime two cases of theft were reported at the school; one at the kitchen and the other was that of a child who stole some money from another child. In both cases the perpetrators were caught and punished. In general cases of bullying and theft are attended to by heads of houses, matron and boarding master as well as senior teacher guidance and counselling.
MP for Kanye South Mr Abram Kesupile had asked the assistant minister if he is aware that parents of children from Lefhoko, Lobutse, Tsonyane and Seherelela at Mogale JSS in Maokane village are not happy with the conditions of the hostels, inadequate feeding and stealing of money and toiletry by those who bully others.
He had wanted to know when he will arrange to meet with parents to hear them out and when the hostels will be attended to as well as what he will do to ensure that children are adequately fed and what he will do to stop school bullying.
However assistant minister Goya said his ministry is represented through a supervisory structure consisting of ten regions and directors at regional level to assist in the administration of the education system and as such the issues raised will be attended to by regional chief education officer who makes regular visits to Mogale school.
