18 Nov 2015

The North West District Council plans to reduce its fuel expenditure by 10 to 15 per cent next year.

Addressing Maun Administration Authority (MAA) councillors in Maun recently, council chairperson, Mr Gaokgakala Letswee said they would introduce a new fuel management system which would monitor fuel consumed per day.

Mr Letswee said fuel stations would be manned by sub districts under the new system.

Furthermore, he challenged all to be prepared to execute projects under the newly introduced Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP) in the district.

He urged the district leadership to be creative and committed to ensure timely delivery of services to the people.

Mr Letswee said ESP was a government economic drive to create job creation and fight poverty.

In addition, Mr Letswee said the Office of the President, through the poverty eradication programme, was in the process of transferring funds to the Ministry of Wildlife, Environment and Tourism for the development of facilities at Lake Ngami.

He said the funds would be channeled to Botswana Tourism Organisation (BTO), which would facilitate the projects.

For his part, councillor Abel Molelo said the fuel management system was a welcome development that would reduce fuel costs in the district. Ends
