Khama to attend memorial service

President Lt Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama will on Thursday November 19 attend a memorial service for the Matsha College students who died in a road accident near Dutlwe on Friday afternoon (November 13).
The service will be held in Salajwe at 9am. The village has the most victims at three, while Sorilatholo, Khudumelapye, Takatokwane and Mantshwabisi lost one student each.
Speaking in a meeting organised to formulate a plan to assist the bereaved families in Letlhakeng, the acting District Commissioner for Kweneng, Ms Boingotlo Ngaka said the President would be accompanied by a number of cabinet ministers, among them the ministers of health, local government, education as well as presidential affairs.
The memorial service is expected to last two hours.
Meanwhile the Kweneng District Council unveiled an action plan to assist the bereaved families. The council will provide each family with two tents, a truck and a van to assist in the daily errands.
The council will also provide each family with two cows each to cater for food during the funeral as well as water where the families have no standpipes in their homes.
The families will also be availed counselling sessions through the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture as well as the Department of Social and Community Development.
Choppies supermarket and AlerxanderForbes have pledged food items and coffins respectively.
Meanwhile the council will also provide transport and accommodation for relatives of the students who are still hosptalised.
However, Ms Ngaka said the accommodation will only be limited to one family member per patient, or to both parents while the assistance to other relatives will only be limited to transportation.
Yesterday, a number of senior government officials including permanent secretaries also visited the bereaved families. Ends
