16 Nov 2015

The Assistant Minister of Education and Skills Development Mr Moiseraele Goya has acknowledged that his ministry is aware that there are some teachers who are still owed overtime and subsistence allowances for the years 2012/2013 and 2013/2014.

Mr Goya told parliament that the total amount owed to 19 teachers for both overtime and subsistence allowance is P69 248.55 and P15 145.15 respectively.

He also stated that he is aware that there are two teachers who are owed salary arrears following upgrading and five teachers who have not been paid the Remote Area Service Allowance (RASA). Mr Goya further said the process of paying those teachers is on-going and that they intend to settle the outstanding payments by December 31, 2015

He said the claims were erroneously left out when others were processed, hence the delay.
The assistant minister  also stated that to avoid recurrence of the same situation, his ministry is continuously communicating with the regions to ensure speedy settlement of outstanding payments.

Member of Parliament for Kanye South, Mr Abram Kesupile had asked the minister if he was aware that primary school teachers in the Kanye South constituency are still owed money for claims of overtime and subsistence allowance for the financial year 2012/2013 and 2013/2014, RASA for 2014 and salary adjustment due to upgrading effective 2013.

MP Kesupile also wanted to know when they would be paid all their claims and also wanted to know what the ministry would do to address the issue. Ends
