Some of the Matsha College students who  were involved in a fatal accident near Dutlwe settlement on Friday last week have started showing signs of recovery.

On Sunday, Vice President, Mr Mokgweetsi Masisi accompanied   by cabinet ministers as well as government officials from the ministries of health, education and local government  visited the road accident victims at both Bokamoso and Gaborone Private hospitals .

The Bokamoso hospital CEO, Mr Andre Ackerman briefed the entourage that they received eight patients, four males and four females who underwent different procedures,  adding that the patients  were doing well.

At Gaborone Private Hospital, the hospital superintendent, Dr Anthony Sibiya said they had hospitalised six patients who were seen by different surgeons and that the patients were also responding well. One of them who had a fracture on the arm was treated   and was due for discharge, he said.

Both Dr Sibiya and Mr Ackerman assured Mr Masisi  that the patients received outmost care and support.

Meanwhile, Mr  Masisi said he was proud of the responsiveness of different stakeholders in the health-care system that poured support and stabilised the helplessness that ensued after the accident occurred.
“Your responsiveness means a lot to us for one life lost is one too many and one injury is one too many,” he said

He further urged the nation  to deal with the calamity in the delicate manner it deserved and be more empathetic to those that were grieving as it was “very difficult to lose a child.”

On other issues, he said it was imperative for the nation to be abreast on how to respond to natural disasters.

Mr Maisi said after the tragedy that befell the country, the nation  should be taught to respond to disasters to curb any further fatalities during accidents and also called on Botswana health professionals to inculcate the culture in any work environment.

He further assured the nation that government would offer support in every way and that the national disaster preparedness committee was alert. Ends
