NDP 10 Projects screened appraised annually

Projects contained in National Development Plan (NDP) 10 are screened and appraised on an annual basis to determine whether they could be implemented through Public Private Partnerships (PPPs).

Assistant Minister of Finance and development Planning, Mr Vincent Seretse told Parliament that during the first half of the plan, four projects have been appraised for undertaking through PPP and these include plot 21, Output Performance Based Road Contract (OPRC), Walvis Bay Dry Port and MWET/MLH office accommodation.

Mr Seretse said the total budget allocation for PPPs projects and processes amounted to over P145 million and this comprises of P13 million for PPP processes, over P67 million for OPRC and over P65 million for plot 21.

The total projected budget allocation for the remaining period of the NDP 10, he said will be informed by the appraisal exercise alluded to part (i).

However, he noted that the budget allocation for ongoing projects and processes during the remaining period of NDP 10 is estimated at over P476 million which comprises of P373 million for OPRC, P60 million for plot 21 and over P43 million for PPP processes.

Mr Seretse said there are many projects in the plan that can be implemented through PPPs.

However, he said it should be noted that PPPs area contingent liability on government.

He said as such, the screening and appraisal exercise attempts to identify those projects that can be self-liquidating in order to reduce the financial risk on government.

Shoshong MP, Mr Phillip Makgalemele had asked the minister the total budget allocation for PPPs projects and processes during the first half on NDP 10.

Mr Makgalemele also wanted to know the total projected budget for PPP projects and processes during the remaining period of NDP 10. ENDS
