Disability expo this month
12 Nov 2015
Shakawe is scheduled to host the inaugural Botswana Disability Expo on November 27-28.
Coordinator of people living with disabilities at the Office of the President, Mr Thomas Motingwa, said the expo would bring together all the districts.
It would comprise an exhibition to showcase the artistic talents of individuals with disabilities in performance arts, business, musical and creative talents.
The expo would also be designed to provide access to information and services from a wide variety of companies and organisations to promote the highest quality of life for individuals living with disabilities.
The event will feature engaging discussions, networking opportunities, and an exhibition area highlighting products and services for the disabled.
He said it will bring together industry, government and other relevant stakeholders in an effort to improve the state of life for people living with disabilities.
Meanwhile, Mr Motingwa also revealed that people living with disabilities who are eligible and have been fully assessed have started receiving their monthly disability allowance as of August 2015 backdated to April 2015 when the provision for this allowance to those eligible became effective.
While this initiative experienced some delays since its introduction in April, he said since August 1, all the problems had been fixed and that the allowance due to those challenged by disability was being paid accordingly.
He encouraged all those eligible for the allowance, P300 monthly pay to apply to be assessed so they can receive their payments to help address and redress socio-economic hardships confronting them. Ends
