Local contractors maintain parliamentary flats
11 Nov 2015
The parliamentary flats tender was awarded to two 100 per cent citizen owned companies, says the Minister of Infrastructure, Science and Technology.
He said the first contract was awarded to Josnadliz (Pty) Ltd and that the project started in September 2013 while the second contract was awarded to Cul de Sac (Pty) Ltd which commenced in April 2014 to renovate 25 flats on the east wing.
Mr Nonofo Molefhi said the contract that was awarded to Jonadliz to renovate 13 flats was awarded at a tender amount of about P5 million which included electrical works while the one awarded to Cul de Sac to renovate 25 flats was awarded at a tender amount of about P11 million.
He noted that both projects were not delivered on time due to additional tiling works introduced in the lounge and dining area in all 38 flats, additional air-conditioning introduced in all flats, and two weeks delay in the commencement of the project to allow the client to vacate the 25 flats.
Other reasons for the delay included non-availability of specified materials in the local market, late appointment of nominated electrical sub-contractors for 25 flats due to non-responsiveness of bidders, increases in the scope of specialised works from the original scope allowed for at the tender stage.
Minister Molefhi, however, noted that with respect to the final cost for the renovation contracts, the initial tender amount of P4 706 875 for the 13 flats was increased to P5 403 245 while the other tender amount of P11 479 045 for 25 flats was increased to P12 994 016.
He said the final contracts’ amounts would only be verified after the conclusion of the final accounts which is currently ongoing.
Gaborone North MP, Mr Haskins Nkaigwa had asked the minister when the tender for the maintenance of the parliamentary flats was awarded and how many flats were under maintenance and at what costs.
He also wanted to know whether the project was delivered on time. ENDS
