Batshu puts nation before God
10 Nov 2015
With the country experiencing a heat wave this week and a forecasted drought, President Lt Gen Seretse Khama Ian Khama has asked the nation to pray for rain.
Delivering the State-of-the-Nation Address on Monday, President Khama took the lead by asking the Minister of Labour and Home Affairs, Mr Edwin Batshu to lead Members of Parliament in prayer for rain. Mr Batshu, who is also a pastor for the Spiritual Healing Church, obliged and led the house in prayer.
It was the first time in the history of Parliament that such a step was taken and it would go a long way in showing how much President Khama trusts God and believes God’s power could open the skies.
“Finally, let me end by once more calling the Lord who makes all things possible, to bless us along our path of progress and grant us rain,” President Khama said.
President Khama further said the nation should continue to pray continuously so that the Lord may come to rescue the country.
The Department of Meteorological Services (DMS) had earlier announced a deficit forecast of rainfall for the years 2015 and 2016.
The department said strong El Nino Southern Oscillation (ENSO) conditions would be a major feature influencing rainfall over Botswana during October 2015 to March 2016, the months which are usually referred to as the rainy season. Ends
