MP residents address water situation

09 Nov 2015

Residents of Metsimotlhabe have agreed with their area Member of Parliament Maj. Gen. Pius Mokgware about the need to resuscitate boreholes in their area in order to solve the water problem that exists in the village.

Speaking at a kgotla meeting in the village recently, Maj. Gen Mokgware said it is clear that shortage of water will prevail for the next four years, suggesting the need to find ways of sourcing water.

He informed residents that he has approached Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) about this plan and that they welcomed this suggestion and even promised to test the water to ensure its safety.

He however, raised a concern about some of the boreholes in the village which are said to be used by some contractors without a clear record of who gave them permission to use them.

One resident, Mr Wanty Sekolokwane said he and his colleagues once formed a Trust that wanted to use the borehole but their efforts were in vain  as it was not clear who really owned it.

For his part Kgosi Raphael Mmipi urged residents to conserve the little water that they have and also advised them to keep their taps closed at all times so as to avoid wastage especially at night.  Ends
