Kgetholetsile sinks Gunners

09 Nov 2015

Elite league rookies, Galaxy FC’s attacker, Kenanao ‘Flo’ Kgetholetsile scored the only goal of the match to give his former employer, Extension Gunners, a push down the relegation line during a beMOBILE Premiership duel played in Jwaneng on Saturday (November 7).

Kgetholetsile scored from a set piece five minutes into the second half to give his team authority over the visitors who were somewhat lethargic in search for goal.

Both teams had missed a fair share of chances which could have otherwise changed the complexion of the game in the first half.

One such chance was when keeper Lame Tladinyane stood between Tebogo Moroka and the goal mouth twice. Somewhat, Gunners were caught in their own offside trap. Tshegofatso Chimuku was also unlucky to have missed about three scoring opportunities.

Chimuku saved Gunners humiliation by denying Kgetholetsile another scoring opportunity in the second half.

Galaxy had caught Gunners on a counter attack but Chimuku came in the nick of time to save their face.

Although they had a plucky striker in Mogomotsi Mokoka, lack of creativity and supply from midpark denied Gunners the opportunity to benefit from his services.

The late introduction of Emmanuel Machinya and Boitshoko Zikhale could not help the situation either. Machinya energised Gunners attack but it was too little, too late.

Gunners started the current season on a high and for a moment or two enjoyed a stay at the apex of the log until boardroom politics had the better of them. They have so far lost seven games, three under the tutelage of coach Daniel Nare.

The team is trapped at position 13 of the table with 13 points out of a possible 39 points. Meanwhile Nare has blamed referee Tshepo Gobagoba for the outcome of the game.

He said the referee had a skewed judgement and allowed opponents to get away with some bookable offences during the game.

He said it was unfair of him to have ruled in favour of Galaxy and disallowed Jomo Moatlhaping’s goal after two players had collided in a 50-50 clash for the ball.

Philani Mabhena one hand said he was relieved to pocket maximum points adding the game was evenly balanced. He was also happy with the way the centre man had handled the match. He said they have a target of 33-34 points to survive the chop. Ends
