Khama addresses nation

The first meeting of the second session of the 11th Parliament commences today (November 9). President Lt Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama is expected to deliver a State-of-the-Nation Address.
It is anticipated that the President would brief the nation about the economic outlook and general affairs including challenges bedeveilling the country.
Members of Parliament would respond to the address for 15 days.
Addressing members the media on Friday, Speaker of the National Assembly, Ms Gladys Kokorwe said it was important that Batswana develop keen in parliamentary discussions, particularly the State-of-the-Nation Address.
“As we know, MPs represent our views as a nation and for this we need to know where we are as a country with regards to socio-economic development” she said.
Ms Kokorwe also said she would like to see more students and the public visiting Parliament to witness the daily debates.
The Speaker explained that the new Goodhope-Mabule MP, Kgosi Lotlaamoreng II would be sworn in today.
Meanwhile, after the delivery of the State-of-the-Nation Address, the following day shall be a clear day in accordance with Standing Order 22.4 where members will only deal with questions and other business of the House before adjourning and having an opportunity to read and internalise the State-of-the-Nation Address further.
