Okavango Air Rescue managing director, Mr John Dikgang, has lauded Ngami District Health Management Team (DHMT) employees for striving for excellent health service delivery.

Officiating at an award ceremony in Maun recently, Mr Dikgang said the awardees showed commitment in their job.

He noted that the health sector faced challenges such as shortage of medication, transport and accommodation but some employees managed to perform diligently.

Mr Dikgang commended the 37 awardees, saying they applied their invaluable practical and technical expertise to deliver quality health service in their region.

He said it was significant to reward achievements and contributions of employees as that will encourage institutional excellence in health service delivery, organisational transformation, preventive health care services and sustainable quality health care services.

The Performance Improvement Coordinator (PIC) in the Ministry of Health, Ms Masego Molebatsi, said her ministry strived for quality health service delivery.

Ms Molebatsi, therefore, said human resource was critical in attaining excellent service delivery, noting that appreciation of employees nurtured human resource.

For his part, DHMT chairperson Dr Christopher Chembe said the awards were meant to appreciate officers who had adopted measures to improve efficiency, transparency and prevent corruption amongst other things.

“With limited resources and mounting challenges facing the government in the delivery of public services, today's innovative winners inspire us to work harder to address public service challenges,” he said.

Dr Chembe said some initiatives by the awardees had improved the quality of life for citizens through improved health care, timely disbursement of health services and improved public safety and use of mobile services among other initiatives.

“The extraordinary achievements of this year's winners of the Ngami DHMT Awards bear testimony to the fact that governance and public service challenges are not insurmountable,” he said. Ends
