Prize giving motivates learners
28 Oct 2015
Rewarding students for their hard work has been described as an important aspect in creating a competitive spirit among students. This was said by Kgosi Isaac Titus of Struizendam when officiating at the Bokspits Primary School prize giving day.
Kgosi Titus noted that competition is important as it encourages every student to do their best to stand out during the prize giving ceremony.
He explained that students would always work hard during the year in anticipation of some reward at the end.
Kgosi Titus pointed out that to educate a child there should be team work between the parent, teacher and the child involved. Kgosi Titus said all the parties as well as stakeholders in education have to play their roles effectively and sufficiently.
“As parents, it is our duty to lay the foundation with our children.
We have a very important role to teach, guide and discipline our children so that by the time they go to school the teacher cements on what the child already knows,” he said.
In addition, Kgosi Titus urged all parents and the community as a whole to encourage children to attend school and make them aware of the importance of education in their lives.
“It is very disturbing that some parents sit at home with children while the children should be at school.
We have to stimulate and motivate them to work hard and be self-sufficient so that one day they can be proud of themselves,” Kgosi added.
He pleaded with communities to help in “building the children instead of breaking them.”
He urged all to play role models to the children and refrain from letting their mistakes be determinants of the children’s future. Kgosi Titus further said government is trying very hard to make sure all its citizens are educated, but if the rest of the stakeholders do not perform their responsibilities, all that effort will be in vain.
Kgosi Titus encouraged those who received prizes to continue with the hard work.
He explained that hard work is the secret weapon in being successful in everything a person puts their mind to. He further encouraged those who received no prizes to work harder and not get demoralised. Ends
