GU register victory

26 Oct 2015

Gaborone United registered a narrow victory against Jwaneng Galaxy in Molepolole on Saturday afternoon (October 24).

The win meant that the troubled Money Machine registered their fifth win of the season and moved to 18 points.

After failing to find the back of the net in their last three encounters, the Ghanaian international Bismack Appiah, brought back the smiles on the faces of GU supporters when he opened the score-line on the 18th minute with a superb header from a Katlego Keobake cross.

The goal meant a lot to the Money Machine as it brought to an end their 287 minutes drought of goals and also made sure that their new technical team’s first day in office was celebrated in style.

Even though the pace of the game was negatively affected by the high temperatures, the game still lived up to the expectations as both teams evenly distributed the ball around.

On the 31st minute, GU stole the show again as Kgololo Kgogobi buried another chance from a well taken corner by Katlego Keobake, giving his side a 2-nil lead cushion.

The game went to a break with the hosts leading by 2–0.

Immediately after recess, Jwaneng Galaxy head coach Philani Mabhena introduced the duo of Kago Segokgo and Tshepho Borake to add a spark on his attack.

Kago Segokgo started opening spaces for their top goal scorer Tebogo Sembowa who was a bit down.

The visitors started throwing missiles after missiles, forcing GU’s defense that was marshaled by their captain Gaopatwe Seosenyeng to work overtime to contain them.

Mabhena made his last substitution and introduced Atisang Batsi and pulled out Thebe Maiketso.

The visitors continued pressing hard and eventually their hard work paid dividents as Tshepho Borake, pulled one back for his team on the 76th minute with a superb strike, reviving the hopes of his side.

Galaxy continued to fight hard but the time was not on their side as the game ended 2-1 in favour of Gaborone United.

After the game, Jwaneng Galaxy head coach, Philani Mabhena attributed his loss to the lack of luck. “I am very happy with how my team responded in the second half and unfortunately we were not lucky on the day.

I believe we deserved a point in this game.” He said.

For his part, Drago Stanojlovic just praised his players for the win but criticized them for waning especially towards the end of the game.

“It is good we managed to collect the maximum points. But my players should learn to fight until the last minute.” he commented.
