Mathangwane residents eager for ESP

26 Oct 2015

Residents of Mathangwane have said they are eagerly waiting for the Economic Stimulus Package (ESP) to be implemented.

They said this at a kgotla meeting addressed by their Member of Parliament who is also the Assistant Minister of Education and Skills Development, Mr Fidelis Molao recently.

Mr Molao had informed them that government has taken a decision to tap from foreign reserves and pursue infrastructural projects, which have long been deferred as a result of the economic recession.

He highlighted that many of government projects were shelved and although the economy has started to improve, developments have not been done at a pace many would have wanted.

The MP said that the government therefore decided to consider tapping from the reserves to boost the economy and speed up development projects.

Through the programme, Mr Molao said temporary and permanent employment will be created for Batswana, adding that although they currently do not have the statistics of how many jobs will be created, they are however confident that something will be there for Batswana to benefit from the programme.

He further explained that the aim is for the programme to start running at the beginning of next month and it will continue until to 2018.

Also, he emphasised that although the programme will be starting, it does not mean that everything, which is planned, will be done at once, and hence he implored Batswana to be patiently waiting for the developments that will be coming in their respective areas.Furthermore, he highlighted that at the Ministry of Education and Skills Development they are in need of 5 000 teachers’ quarters, about 800 classes and 175 laboratories across the schools in the country.

He said through ESP, they are looking forward to addressing the shortages with such projects in order to resolve the long standing crisis’s at schools. Ends
