The University of Botswana recently held the third conference of Africa & Middle East Congress on Addiction (AMECA) in Gaborone, which sought to address substance abuse and mental health issues in Southern Africa.
Speaking at the conference, psychology lecturer at the University of Botswana Dr Morekwe Selemogwe-Matsetse said the focus of the conference was to share ideas on how to help people who abuse substances.
She said that the conference attracted delegates from countries such as Kenya, Namibia and South Africa.
“This will strengthen our research and capacity building efforts in the field of mental health addiction in Africa and the Middle East, particularly in the southern African region,” she said.
The three day AMECA conference was themed The Challenge of Drug and Alcohol Abuse in Southern Africa, Thinking Globally, Acting Locally. ENDS
