The Boteti Sub district Council Self-Help Housing Agency (SHHA) since its inception in 2008 has funded over 100 deserving beneficiaries.
There are two Self Help Housing Agency programmes in place in the district, being the Turnkey and Home Improvement programmes.
About 101 beneficiaries have been funded under turnkey programme and Boteti sub District council has handed over a total of 65 houses.
Out of 101 beneficiaries funded, 36 houses were the first batch to be constructed by Botswana Housing Corporation (BHC) of which twenty six houses are complete and ten are reported to be on going.
BHC is expected to commence construction of 102 units, the principal technical officer at the Boteti Sub District Council, Mr Solomon Nkanokang said in an interview.
He said SHHA programmes are funded on a constituency basis and “therefore 51 beneficiaries funded are for Boteti East and West constituencies for the financial year 2015 and 2016. This will be the second batch to be constructed by Botswana Housing Corporation”.
He said currently, there are 45 applicants on the waiting list “we have 44 applications for Boteti East and one for Boteti West on our waiting list.”
Under the Home Improvement programme, 48 beneficiaries have been funded since inception, he added.
“No funds have been received for 2015/ 2016 under this programme, and as such there are 11 applicants on the waiting list covering both Boteti constituencies,” he said.
He said to be eligible for SHHA, applications must first be a citizen of Botswana aged between 18 and 60 years, with a household earning within the income bracket of P4400 to P52 000 per annum.
Mr Nkanokang stated that applicants must be formally employed or legitimately self-employed and can apply in areas of their choice. ENDS
