Residents appeal for a clinic

25 Oct 2015

Residents of Mokgacha in the Okavango region have appealed to the Minister of  Local Government and Rural Development for a clinic in their village since they travel long distances of about 20 km to access health services.

Speaking at a kgotla meeting addressed by Mr Slumber Tsogwane,  Shakawe Village Development Committee chairperson Ms Kathiku Divonge said the residents travel to Seronga for services.

She also asked for a water stand pipe in the village and also noted that since the village was gazetted in 2013 they do not have a kgosi, therefore they were asking for one.

When explaining the stimulus programme to the people, Mr  Tsogwane indicated that government wishes to revisit projects and other development plans that were deferred due to economic recession.

He assured residents that during this financial year, the government will address some of the issues they mentioned and will act accordingly to make sure that people are served well.

He said projects like building of classrooms, maintenance of internal roads, street lights, among others, will bring developments in the villages across the country.

He encouraged local businesses, such as contractors and others to take advantage of the programme and work diligently. He said the initiative will also help in creating jobs for the locals.

The minister also touched on stray cattle policy indicating that the time frame has been reduced from six months to three months. He also informed them about amendments of village development committee policies.

Giving a vote of thanks, the Member of Parliament for Okavango Mr Bagalatia Arone thanked the minister for the visit and also encouraged public officers to work hard to help people as programmes continue to come into the district. ENDS
