HRDC keen to craft enabling environment

22 Oct 2015

The chief executive officer of Human Resource Development Council (HRDC) Dr Patrick Molutsi says his organisation is very keen in working with other stakeholders in an endevour to craft an enabling environment for job creation for Batswana, especially the young and jobless graduates.

Giving a keynote address at a two-day Annual Botswana Job Summit on Monday October 19 at GICC, Dr Molutsi said the summit should be used as a stepping stone towards addressing the problem of unemployment in the country by coming up with long term solutions on sustainable jobs.

He therefore said HRDC as a skills training entity, was very quick to accept the invitation of partnering with OneSource Consulting in organising the summit because HRDC is equally concerned at the level of unemployment in the country.

He noted that the summit should also be used to mobilise resources and ideas which should ultimately be used to fight the challenge of job scarcity. However, Dr Molutsi warned, this can only be achieved through a systematic and well defined long term detailed formula.

Meanwhile he said in 2005 when government agreed to sponsor tertiary students in local private institutions the enrolment was increased and thus the private sector and other sectors of the economy had a share of the cake from the revenue made from such admissions.

The summit was divided into seven session and the first session was to present a situational analysis of the country in order to assist all participants understand the nature, type and causes of unemployment in Botswana.

The last session on the order hand focused primarily on systemising the two days discussions and agreeing on the resolutions which will serve as inputs into job creation interventions by various stakeholders post the summit. ENDS
